                                                    Insignia 2010.5 Model Year Update

New engine, new trims and new options

New ecoFLEX Engine

A new version of the engine is introduced, the 2.0 CDTi 130PS ecoFLEX. The ecoFLEX 130PS powertrain will be available in combination with the Exclusiv trim as a Hatchback Manual.

This engine has been developed with the fleet market in mind. This is because company policies dictate lower powered engine requirements for specific grades and age profiles.

This new 2.0 CDTi variant runs along side it's bigger brother, the 2.0 CDTi 160PS ecoFLEX which is the class-leading power to emission vehicle in it's segment.

The S-trim upgrade from CD300 to CD400 @ £100 including VAT @ 15%. The upgrade allows for a number of infotainment upgrades that follows below.

Navigation Infotainment

CD500

This unit becomes standard with the Insignia NAV model range. The system is driven by CD-ROM with a 1GB flash-drive to store navigation date in the same way as the DVD800.

To enhance the Navigation operation, the CD500 receives the Multi-function Infotainment Controller next to the electric park brake. This operational functionality, combined with the 7-inch colour monitor provides fast and intuitive Navigation, with Dynamic Guidance via the RDS-TMC channel.

The Navigation model price remains £815.00 including VAT above the standard car.

DVD800

The DVD driven Navigation unit becomes optional for Insignia and is ordered in association with the standard Insignia models.

Aditional features above the CD500 are:

Other MP3 players are able to be used with the Insignia USB input. Customers should test their device with Retailer demonstrator/showroom vehicles.

USB input is standard with CD400 on SE, Elite and VXR, whilst a new option with Exclusiv and SRi. USB input is also an option for the S-trim with the CD400 updgrade.

DAB Radio

The option of Digital Broadcast is now available with Exclusiv and SRi trims.

DAB is standard with SE, Elite and VXR variants and this is retained on the NAV variants CD500, or where a DVD800 is available to order on the non-NAV variant.

DAB now broadcast audio and data services that can be recieved in over 85% of the United Kingdom.

Benefits of DAB

Better reception: no more hiss and crackle e.g BBC 5 Live is available on DAB, rather than listening to AM 909/693.

Infinity Sound System

For absolute premium sound, the Insignia now offers the option of the branded Infinity Sound System. The system features:

7x45 Watt amplifier (415 Watt total)

Digital Sound Processor (DSO)

9/8/8 premium speakers (Saloon/Hatchback/Sport Tourer)

2 rear mounted 6x9" subwoofers (1 rear mounted subwoofer with Hatchback/Sport Tourer)

2 door mounted 6.5" wide band speakers

2 A-pillar mounted 1" tweeters

1 front mounted 3.5" medium range speaker

Mobile Phone System with Bluetooth

Mobile Phone System with Bluetooth, typical referred to just the "Bluetooth option", it is only available with the CD400 unit. With the upgrade on S-trim, Bluetooth is available across all Insignia variants.

Featuring Voice Control via the steering wheel, typical commands such as "Dial", "Call", "Re-dailling", "Save", "Delete", "Directory" ensure the system can be used totally hands-free.

Embedded Mobile Phone System with Bluetooth

New for 2010.5MY, Vauxhall are pleased to introduce the Embedded Mobile Phone System. This is a more advanced Bluetooth offer for on-the-move hands-free phone operation.

The Embedded Phone provides an in-car flash-drive which downloads the mobile phone Contacts, Caller Lists and Phone Settings, therefore the "car becomes the telephone".

Once synchronised, the mobile phone will sit in a virtual standby mode and the Bluetooth function will no longer drain the phones battery.

All phone calls are transmitted through the external vehicle antenna, not the mobile phone. Any alterations made to the Caller Lists, Contacts etc, whilst the phone is synchronised to the car will be transferred back to the mobile phone.

Electric Foldable Door Mirrors

This standard feature from the Insignia Elite and VXR is now available to be ordered on Exclusiv, SE and SRi models where the vehicle has either the Premium Sensory Pack or Sight and Light Pack fitted. SE variants have Sight and Light Pack fitted integral in their specification, therefore Electric Folding Door Mirrors can ordered as a single option.

                                          The New Insignia BiTurbo Diesel

The new 2.0 BiTurbo CDTi delivers 190PS (140kW) and upto 400 Nm of torque. It features twin turbo technology that eliminates any trace of turbo lag. A smaller, high-pressure turbo operating upto 1,500 rpm, the larger turbocharger then coming into action to achieve maximum performance and economy over this level. It also has super-efficient 3rd generation common rail induction with 2,000 bar induction pressure for maximum efficiency.

Sensors within cylinders measure the optimum combustion conditions in real time, allowing the engine control unit (ECU) to instantly fine-tune the fuel delivery. This creates a closed loop system that reduces emissions and noise to the very minimum, while maximising efficiency. The system also measures fuel quality and other combustion factors, so maximising the power and emissions output over the complete life span of the engine, compensating wear and tear and helping prolong the whole engines life.

Manual transmission impresses, helping deliver the optimum in fuel efficiency together with maximum driving satisfaction. The result of these technological advances is a very smooth, Euro 5 compliant power unit that matches the power output of current 6-cylinder units, while achieving extra economy by reducing weight and increasing efficiency under all driving loads and conditions.

FlexRide is included with the package on all CDTi 190PS models, with the AWD models includes and Electronic-Limited Slip Differential.

Build of the BiTurbo Manual FWD and AWD models commence Week 42.

CO2 emission figures will be announced closer to the star of regular production.

Insignia takes fight to premium rivals

                                     New Insignia VXR 4X4

  • Nurburgring-proven chassis with Adaptive 4X4
  • Turbocharged V6 engine with race-bred design features
  • Unique-to-range front suspension for optimised grip and traction

Luton – Packing 325 horsepower, a sophisticated four-wheel-drive chassis and a sub-six second 0-60 time, Vauxhall’s new Insignia VXR is set to take the mid-size performance saloon market by storm when it goes on sale early this summer, with a level of dynamic prowess which aims to raise the bar in its class.

Based on the successful 2009 European Car of the Year, and available in hatch, saloon and Sports Tourer body styles, the high-performance Insignia will be Vauxhall’s first VXR model to adapt 4X4 technology, using a bespoke chassis developed through and extensive test programme at the gruelling Nurburgring circuit in Germany.

Highlights are ‘HiPerstrut’ (High Performance Strut) front suspension system, Adaptive 4X4 with electronic Limited Slip Differential (eLSD) and a 10 millimetre reduction in ride height over the Insignia SRi.

The HiPerStrut system is unique to the VXR and serves two primary functions: firstly, to reduced torque-steer, but also to maintain negative camber during cornering, thereby improving ultimate grip levels in wet or dry conditions.

Complementing these features are standard 19-inch alloy wheels (20-inch lightweight forged alloys are a cost option) with bespoke tyres, revised bushing and damper settings on both axles, and Brembo brakes with colour-keyed callipers and vented/cross-drilled discs.

‘The Insignia VXR is not just about absolute power, but a combination of usable performance and chassis sophistication which is a match of premium rivals, such as Audi’s new S4’ said Andy Gilson, Vauxhall’s Marketing Director. ‘In essence, it’s an ultra-fast performance saloon that will appeal to buyers who appreciate subtle yet distinctive styling, but who need to know what there’s real substance below the car’s metal.’

And substance the VXR has a-plenty. At the heart of the Insignia VXR is Vauxhall’s advanced 2.8-litre V6 Turbo ECOTEC engine, with it’s micro-alloy forged steel crank, classic 60-degree cylinder angle and die-cast alloy oil sump – all features found in many a race engine. Producing 325PS (65PS up on the Elite V6), the engine uses a single, twin-scroll turbocharger and variable valve control for quick throttle response, and accelerates from 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds, achieving and electronically limited top speed of 155mph.

With a design inspired by the Vauxhall/Opel GTC, many of the Insignia VXR’s styling cues will be familiar to those who saw this groundbreaking concept at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. A deeper bumper, incorporating bold, twin mesh grilles either side of the main grille, dominates the front of the car, and at the rear, hatch and saloon models gain a rear spoiler, while all VXR’s have a bespoke bumper moulding incorporating dual matt chrome exhausts.

The sporting theme continues in the Insignia VXR’s cabin. Recaro front seats, a new VXR steering wheel, VXR gearknob and unique mouldings are standard on all cars, along with differet instrument graphics, VXR sill plates and a black headlining.

All VXR’s are available with a colour palette compromising Arden Blue, Power Red, Carbon Flash Black, Silver Lake, Olympic White and Technical Grey.

Sitting at the top of the Insignia range, the new model will be an important addition to Vauxhall’s performance-bred VXR family, which already includes the Corsa VXR, Astra VXR and 431 horsepower VXR8.

Since its launch in 2004, the VXR brand has been underpinned by the immensely successful VXR Racing team, which currently holds all three British Touring Car Championship titles – Driver, Manufacturer and Team for the 2008 season.

Prices for the Vauxhall Insignia VXR will be announced soon.

Vauxhall Insignia. European Car of The Year 2009

The Vauxhall Insignia has been chosen as the 2009 European Car of the year, beating Ford’s all new Fiesta. The Insignia received 20 first place votes and 321points from the jury of automotive writers. Volkswagen’s new Golf ran third with 223 points, while the Citroen C5, Alfa Romeo MiTo, and Skoda Superb were fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively. Insignia is Car of The Year 2009

“We are delighted to be able to deliver good news at such a tough time,” says Steve Cropley, editor-in-chief of Autocar, COTY’s British-based sponsoring magazine, “The market’s the toughest we’ve seen for 20 years, but nothing alters the fact that the Insignia is a great car. The COTY jury is made up of 59 senior motoring journalists from 23 countries. Their objective is to choose the most outstanding new car to go on sale in the past 12 months. Jurors vote twice:  first to select a short-list of seven from the new cars launched in Europe, then again to choose the winner.Autocar is one of seven leading publications from around Europe which organise the COTY contest. Each publication takes it in turn to organise the vote, publicise and promote the contest and hold the prize-giving ceremony. The jury is completely independent of the Organising Committee in matters connected with the award itself, the selection of eligible cars and the voting.

VAUXHALL TO REVEAL THIRD INSIGNIA VARIANT AT PARIS SHOW

  • Stand-alone estate model to join range
  • Retains wheelbase and design language of hatch and saloon
  • Two new engines available from launch

Luton. These are the first official shots of Vauxhall’s new Insignia estate, which will debut at the Paris Salon on 2 October.

Known as the Sports Tourer, it will be available to UK buyers in the second quarter of 2009 and will feature two new engines – a more powerful turbodiesel and a smaller capacity turbocharged petrol unit – in addition to the five powerplants available from launch in the saloon and hatchback models. An ecoFLEX Sports Tourer with competitively low emissions and fuel consumption will also be available in the near future.

Mark Adams, Vice-President of GM Europe Design, described the Sports Tourer’s design as athletic, powerful and elegant. “However,” says Mark, “this is a stand-alone model and not simply an estate version of the saloon. In fact, all the bodywork aft of the

B-pillars is unique to the Sports Tourer. We’ve also ensured that its design combines

the sculptural artistry and technical precision found in the saloon and hatch models.”

Designers gave the rear of the Sports Tourer a unique, yet cohesive appearance by pulling the wraparound tailgate deep in to its flanks and accentuating it with large, fully integrated tail lights.

Inside, as with the Insignia saloon and hatch, the Sports Tourer has ample room for five adults and one of the best loadspace volumes in its class. (Full dimension and capacity details of the loadspace will be revealed at the Paris Auto Show in October 2008.) Despite this, Vauxhall has retained the hatch and saloon’s wheelbase (2,737mm) and added around 80mm to its length.

The new petrol and diesel engines available in the Sports Tourer will complement the Insignia’s existing line up of three petrol and two diesel units, including the 130 and 160PS 2.0 CDTi which achieve 58.9mpg on the extra urban cycle, the 220PS 2.0i Turbo, and the 260PS 2.8i V6 range-topper, capable of powering the Insignia from 0-60mph in 6.7 seconds.

Like the Insignia hatch and saloon, the Sport Tourer will also be available with front- and all-wheel drive, as well as Vauxhall’s FlexRide system with its Adaptive Stability Technology.

The new estate model will also benefit from the high levels of technology showcased at Insignia’s launch, such as Vauxhall’s latest generation Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL), with its nine light beam settings, and the Front Camera System, which can read and memorise road signs and alert drivers if they unintentionally veer off the road.

The new Vauxhall Insignia, on sale from 22 July and arriving in showrooms in January 2009, has already attracted glowing praise from the motoring media even before they have driven it, for its dynamic design and innovative technology. New Insignia features an all-new chassis with technological features available including the new FlexRide system and Adaptive 4X4, the latest generation Intelligent Adaptive Forward Lighting System, and Hot Shot (heated washer fluid). The interior has a new design combined with a premium quality look and feel and is coupled with generous standard specification across all trim levels at an affordable price.

The initial press reaction has been excellent:

“Good enough to really deep-down want one” Car June 2008

“Step inside the car and it’s like someone at the airport telling you you’ve been upgraded from economy to business class” The Sun, June 2008

“Insignia looks like it’s come from another planet compared to its predecessors… Top brands like Audi and Volkswagen must have got a bit of a shock when they saw their first photos of the new Vauxhall.’

Richard Hammond, The Mirror, April 2008

Trim

Available in S, Exclusiv, SE, Elite and SRi models, in either 4-door saloon or 5-door hatchback bodystyles each trim level benefits from greater interior differentiation. Interior design cues include a wrap around dashboard which embraces the occupants, while the exterior ‘blade’ graphic is picked up in the shape of the interior door grab handle, the steering wheel and the gear-shift surround, all of which are finished in a galvanized effect and feel cool to the touch.

•         Passenger airbag deactivation

Engines and Transmissions

From launch there is the choice of three petrol and two diesel engines, all of which are Euro V compliant.  The entry level petrol engine is the 1.8 16v (140PS) engine already seen in other Vauxhall models. There is also a choice of either the new 2.0 Turbo 16v (220PS) with either manual or automatic transmission or 2.8 V6 24v (260PS) automatic. The Insignia will launch with two versions of the new 2.0 CDTi engine, developing either 130PS or 160PS, both of which are next generation engines and offer more power and torque, as well as competitive fuel economy. Apart from the 2.8i V6 Turbo engine, each engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, with all but the 1.8i engine available with the optional six-speed automatic transmission.

Please refer to the table below for possible trim/engine combinations.
